Dining at the Grand Floridian at Walt Disney World – Where to Go, When Your Stomach Growls
Choosing where to eat at a place with so many different options can be seem like a daunting decision to make. With as many as six different restaurants open at the same times, it could seem an impossible choice. To serve you decide where to eat, you should decide what you are looking for out of your meal.
The Grand Floridian offers one character meal, which is open for breakfast and dinner. Both buffet style meals are different, and different characters are indicate at both, should you (or your family!) wish to go see both. Display at the character breakfast are Alice and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, and Mary Poppins. Many different foods are included such as breads and pastries, a cold buffet with cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, chilled soups, and more. The hot buffet includes many of the specialty breakfast foods that Disney is known for – including Mickey Mouse waffles, buffet stations where you can have custom meals prepared for you, and much more. At a Disney buffet, everyone is likely to find something that suits them, so if you are with a picky eater, this may be a good choice for you.
The character dinner offers many different types of food, from casual to specialty. You will see Cinderella, and various others of her friends. Usually Suzy and Perla, the mice appear, and Prince Charming is usually present as well. The Fairy Godmother has been known to compose a special appearance as well. On rare occasions, others will show up as well! I have never seen less than three characters at any Disney character meal, but I have seen up to eight. At the character meal, you will get options from soups, and salads, and side dishes, besides the main entrees. There is also a children’s section of food – just in case your child doesn’t care for shrimp or salmon or prime rib, there are options from childrens’ favorites such as, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken nuggets, cheese pizza, macaroni and cheese, mini corn dogs, and more. Just because it’s called the children’s corner, doesn’t mean you can’t sample from this fragment, if something here catches your sight as well! There are also many assorted types of dessert, including Edy’s soft serve ice cream, brownies, cheesecake, and more. Buffets do tend to be a tiny more costly than regular average meals, so if you are on a budget, you may not want to plan too many. They are definitely a experience which one shouldn’t miss however, no matter how old you are!
The Grand Floridian Cafe is also inside the main building. Overlooking the gardens and the pools, it offers a relaxed environment for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are also special children’s meals, offering lower prices and healthy foods that children are bound to like. For breakfast, I would suggest the Mickey waffle (mountainous for everyone), or the Minnie pancake – a Mouse shaped pancake with toppings. Adults in the family can also choose the Mickey waffle, however they can get more options with it, such as bacon and sausage. Also, the Cafe offers more breakfast options than most restaurants. Whether you want a big breakfast, or small breakfast, you’re likely to find what you want here, for a reasonable price.
The children’s menu for lunch and dinner offers a variety of choices. There are eight entrees: ranging from beef filet with rice, to pasta, to peanut butter sandwiches with their choice of either jelly, bananas, or marshmallow fluff. Special desserts are offered for children as well: “Worms and Dirt”, Jello, ice cream, or recent fruit. The adult menu also offers a obedient amount of choices – lunch is mostly salads, sandwiches, and hamburgers, however there is a good variety of these, and a few other options. They also offer mini-desserts, which are a suitable size to follow up a meal, or chocolate fondue and fruit to share. Dinner here offers several different meats – however if you are a vegetarian, and want more than soup and salad, you may want to go elsewhere- even the pasta has shrimp and prosciutto. For all meat-lovers though, you can choose between different types of beef, fish, and chicken, and you should rep the choices very satisfactory.
Gasparilla Grill and Games is the “fast food” option at the Grand Floridian. It is open twenty-four hours, so if you are getting home late from the park and want a snack or a bottled drink, this is the place to come. Breakfast is served until eleven am, and yes, they do offer the famous mickey waffle. This probably is the cheapest options for meals, as it is a fast food type environment. For breakfast, you can resolve between several platters, or just choosing the individual items. There are pastries available all day, many suitable for breakfast, if you do not eat a big breakfast. Lunch options includes soups, sandwiches, chicken strips, or pizza. There are several desserts available in the refrigerator doors. While I wouldn’t suggest having every meal here, it is excellent if you are crunched for time, need a quick snack, or need a budget-friendly meal. You can also choose to eat outdoors, although the birds may beg for some food!
There are three fine dining restaurants at the Gargantuan Floridian: Citricos, Narcoosee’s, and Victoria and Albert’s. Citricos and Narcoosee’s both offer a children’s menu, and both require business casual dress code. Citricos is only start Wednesday through Sunday, so you may need to plan around this. It is commonly used in many weddings, so don’t be surprised by the elegant decor! Your children are bound to love their special options including Grilled Filet (Beef), Mickey Pasta, and a Create Your Enjoy Ice cream Sundae. One excellent point to note is that Citricos offer a small, but good selection of vegetarian options: Seared Tofu with vegetables for an entree, a Tomato and Mozzarella salad or a Goat Cheese salad, an Onion tart, and a Mushroom Ravioli being pre-entree options. Do not be embarrassed to order two or three of these and no entree, if that’s what you prefer. I have done this at the Californian Grill, and nobody pays it any mind. Narcoosee’s is by the Lagoon side, so you will have a breathtaking conception. If you are there at the right time, you will be available to see the Seven Seas Lagoon Electrical Water Parade. The children’s menu includes fish, filet mignon, chicken strips, build your own S’mores, and more. For those over the age of ten, there are wonderful choices as well. There seems to be more seafood options here- perhaps since they are by the water, but there are still other options. In my opinion, Narcoosee’s is known more for the view, while Citricos is known more for its decor, however they both are equally breathtaking. There are vegetarian options here- mostly mushroom, so if you are vegetarian and do not like mushrooms, you may want to either check out the menu online, or call and ask for a special meal.
Victoria and Albert’s requires jackets for men, and fancy dress for ladies. The menu changes here daily – if you have special dietary concerns, objective mention them when making your reservations, and they will work around them. I have even heard of people requesting certain previous meals, and them being served, even if the item is out of season. It is an excellent atmosphere for special occasions. You are waited on by two servers, one male, one female: “Victoria” and “Albert”. You also have the option for a higher cost, to eat at the Chef’s Table, which is set up in the kitchen. If you are lucky enough to reserve this option, you do not get waited on by solely the traditional Victorian servers, but the Chefs assist as well. When you choose this option, they ask what your dietary likes and dislikes are, and create a custom meal for you. Sometimes others at the table may have the same entree as you, but not always. It it is a very personalized event. This is a prime spot for a rememberable engagement spot- the ring will be brought out with the dessert, no earlier. However, no matter what, Victoria and Albert’s will not be a dinner you forget.
Whether you’re looking for a quick meal, or a luxurious relaxing dinner, Spacious Floridian has the place for you. In Room Dining is also available twenty-four hours a day, with everything from to-go lunches, a casual light meal, or a mouthwatering designer meal. If you are looking for a special romantic meal, talk to the concierge, or whomever you book dining reservations with. Romance packages can include any meal from any restaurant, either in your suite, on the yacht, or in other of the hotel’s breathtaking scenic spots. The Grand Floridian will win your stomach over, as easily as it will charm your heart with its beauty, and the wonderful service provided.
