For those familiar with the Disneyland resort in Anaheim California, known simply as “Disneyland” to millions of Americans, it is composed of two theme parks, Disneyland and “Disney’s California Adventure”, also simply called DCA. While Disneyland, which opened in 1955, has been well crafted over the decades to offer some of the finest themed attractions in the theme park industry, its much younger sibling, DCA, has not been nearly as successful. Perhaps this is because DCA was initially conceived as primarily a dining and shopping district and evolved into a sort of half theme park half shopping area which is located across from Disneyland where the original parking lot used to be.
Despite initial high hopes, DCA hasn’t turned to be nearly as popular as the iconic Disneyland for a variety of reasons, the biggest of which is that there isn’t distinguished to see there. DCA isn’t nearly as big as Disneyland and its visual horizon is crowded out by a variety of high-rise hotels, some of which have been built recently. For this reason there certainly isn’t that Disney feel associated with DCA (despite Disney being in the name). In fact, the low quality attractions placed in DCA, many of which are the off-the-shelf cheap amusement park rides which Walt Disney despised himself, have tarnished the Disney reputation worldwide to a certain extent.
